New York Central Motorized Ballast Tamper Car circa 1985. This car is a reissue of the Postwar Era 54 Ballast Tamper.
What a neat find! This car has a realistic set of small pile drivers on the front that move up and down and "tamp" down the ballast rock along the track. This is controlled by track activators (sold separately). As the tamping action is activated, the motor slows down to half speed.
